My friend just sent me a clip from an article she found in the January 2009 issue of the Readers Digest that I found incredibly interesting. The article is centered on the often misdiagnosed sinus infection, but it wasn’t so much the symptoms that I found interesting, but the acknowledgement that was given once again to one of my favorite ingredients used in my Sinol all natural sinus remedy: Capsaicin.
Alexander C. Chester, MD, a clinical professor of medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center, notes that there are several types of pain, stemming from areas other than just the head area that often lead a person to misdiagnose a sinus infection. As a chronic sinusitis and allergy sufferer I am well aware of the aches and pains that center on the condition, but for people new to sinusitis, I could easily see how they could be misled. Some common symptoms according to Dr. Chester that could mislead you to think otherwise are:
· Feeling sore and worn out
· Pain in the shoulder, neck and hips
· Tooth pain and sensitivity
Dr. Chester even feels that there could be some cases of arthritis, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome that are misdiagnosed and are actually sinus infections.
Kudos to capsaicin
There are several products on the market, both prescribed and over the counter for treating sinusitis, but if you want to treat you symptoms all naturally then your choices are limited. Dr. Chester notes that drinking lots of water and staying hydrated is helpful in keeping your nasal passages less stuffed, reducing the chance of infection. He goes on to say that “capsaicin pepper spray is an alternative remedy showing some promise”.
I am always delighted to see this powerful ingredient get recognition, especially when it comes from a doctor of traditional medicine and not a holistic doctor. I personally think the statement down plays the true impact of capsaicin and its effectiveness, but again, its acknowledgement from the traditional medical community and I was very happy to see it.
Catch the capsaicin buzz
My all natural nasal spray with capsaicin is Sinol and I have been using it for about two years now. I don’t know how I managed before without it, and because of it, I am the closest I have ever been, to being sinus and allergy free. The more I’ve used it, the less frequent my episodes have been, and I never feel tired or dopey or have a single side effect like I did when I used antihistamines and decongestants. Even if I do get a flare up, I use my all natural nasal spray as often as I need it and I still feel vibrant and alert and I’m not slowed down in the least. Now you can see why I get so excited when I see capsaicin get the recognition it deserves.
